Fatty the finch

It was kind of cold this morning...balmy by Cape Breton standards, but we're in Nantucket!
Look who was sleeping by the window when I got up this morning.....Fatty the finch....she just sat there near the bird feeder while I made Honey some coffee. The birders were out doing the Nantucket Island bird count. Check it out! Tweet! Tweet!

Yummy Breakfast on a Sunday Morning

Look what Honey made me this morning....It may look icky, but that's one of my favorites, egg in a hole. Check this out... http://www.flickr.com/photos/churl/114472624/ (his looks much neater...we're more free form) and then you may want to check this out...http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Egg-in-a-Boat/Detail.aspx....and finally, there's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_in_the_basket. Who would have known there would be so much info on ole Egg in the hole? Now you know. My family and my cousin's family would eat these when we'd go camping....all 14 of us! We would just keep lining up......YUM! But getting back to breakfast, he also served a nice glob of avocado and some sliced tomatoes,a pretty glass of blueberry/pomagrante juice, some yogurt and oatmeal-rice cereal....and did you notice how he cut out the toast with a butterfly cookie cutter? He did that just for me:):):):):) And then there's the pretty little calendula that poped open in our cold frame. (It's about 20 degrees F today)What a sweet heart...(Thank-you ,Hunny)And those plates are pretty nice too! I'm a lucky gal! xoxoxoxo

Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree

This is one of my favorite Christmas books....I love the illustrator ,Robert Barry. "Mr.Willowby's Christmas tree
came by special delivery....Full and fresh and glistening green....the biggest tree he had ever seen." Well, he has to chop off the tree top, and then you get to follow through a forest full of friendly creatures who get to share the tree top in their own special ways. It's a great book for young and old...and you can get it here...http://www.nantucketbookworks.com/NASApp/store/Search;jsessionid=abcjilzQjLOqHaJIU6OBr Just type in the title and away you go!

Merry Christmas!

Party day

It was the day of Nantucket Bookworks(http://www.nantucketbookworks.com/ )staff party. I planned to hang our new wreath from Charlie and Marykay, make a big batch of honey glazed chicken and butterfly cookies to bring to the party, make a few little catnip treats for the kitties, and whip up a ginger bread house.....the party was at 6pm....I had about 6 hours to do it in......
The ornaments were all excitedly waiting for "honey" to bring the tree home.....

all the ingredients for the party......

Ella said she would help....

I hung the wreath from Charlie and Marykay....

the chicken came out great! I let in cook for a few hours while I made the cookies.....

Ella got the dough from the fridge....I got the royal icing ready.....

I could only cook 6 cookies at a time....I just moved in with "honey" and I only found a weenie tray from the toaster oven to bake on....WWMD?...I said to myself.... charge ahead!....hey I still have a few hours! One batch at a time....right in there with the chicken....

frosting cookies isn't as easy as it looks....I'll have to keep practicing!

yum....

yum...

yum!

Voila! 6:45 pm.... (Catnip mice in the background)whipped those up while "honey" got dressed.....

Gingerbread dough....never made the house....I forgot that we didn't have cookie sheets and gave up...stuck it in the freezer to make gingerbread men for Marty and Paul....

Still waiting.......
