Style Like U And Elisa Palomino

I was browsing through Style Like U and found a nice photo shoot and video of the fashion designer, Elisa Palomino. She is married to the film maker Tristan V Christann who made the movie "Manhattan Mermaid"
I love her feminine and ethereal style. I especially like the flowers in her hair and those of her models. So I did a little illustration of her from the Style like U pictures in her "closet". I think I'll have to do more ! You'll find lots to look at in the Style Like U videos and interviews. Happy Sunday and have fun! :)

Celia Birtwell

I've always loved Celia Birtwell's textile and dress designs. She collaborated with her husband, Ozzie Clark and I remember seeing their work as well as Mary Quant's back in the '60's and '70's from my Aunt Peggy. She lived in London and showed me all sorts of clothing and design that she would pick up from Biba, a fashion store that was popular back then.

'

You can see the influence she had on my artwork.
Recently I have started doing a bit of fashion illustration. I did a few sketches when I was in NYC last week.I'll post them soon!
Here is a magnet paper doll that Celia created and sells at her online shop. (I have to say, I might have to get that pink hip flask!:):)
She has wallpaper, stationery......
accessories....
indoor....and outdoor...I want it all!

You can enter Celia's world HERE! Have fun and stay warm East Coasters! :}) That's a Salvador Dali... smile....ha ha you can see the mermaid in the right corner...)

The Sketch Book Project

Whew! This is going to be a long post. I finished my sketch book for the Sketch Book Project. Here are some of the images I drew.
I used bits of poetry to accompany some of the images.
I also just had a little fun with my own thoughts and words!

I used a lot of quotes from "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Here is Bottom, singing. When Marty was little, he played the part of Bottom in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and I made a papier mache head for his performance. I wish we still had it, but I gave it to so many other theater companies to use that who knows where it is now!
I found some really nice black paper in my stash and wrote with a white pen. I like the effect!
The participants of the Sketch Book Project were to pick a theme for their book from a list that they provided.

I picked "Nighttime Stories".
This is the second to last page,
And this is the second page.
and more!
Lots of sleeping and dreaming images.

Here is a mermaid in her night garden.
"A Midsummer Night's Dream " has a beautiful line about mermaids. Act 1 Scene 1.
She has some paper cut-out stars.
And that's the last page! Thanks for looking! The show starts at the Brooklyn Art Library and continues all over the country. You can see all the different art work here!

New Ceramics

As promised, new pottery. I didn't quite finish the bunch that I wanted to post, but tomorrow is another day. So much going on! First of all, the zines are out at Pikaland...go take a look! ( you can get one here, too!) And then I mailed off my sketch book project sketch book. (You can see some of the 28,836 participants portfolios here.)Whew! Who would have thought January would be BUSY?
I like the way this new design came out on the plates. They co-ordinate with the frame and box designs.
And here are some wee salt and pepper dishes with spoons.
I love making these .
side views....
Thanks for looking and back to work for me! :) Oh yes! Newness in the etsy shop!

Here is the front....

It holds 4 knives.

India Cookbook

I just read about this interesting cookbook in my Saveur Magazine from December 2010. ( January is a good time to catch up on all of that reading!) We love Indian cooking, and this book by Pushpesh Pant put out by Phaidon Press ( say that three times fast!) looks like a dandy collection of recipes.
Saveur included this recipe for sweet yogurt with pistachios and saffron.
And here is another combination of mouthwatering delights!( Guess what we are having for dinner tonight.) I'm off to the studio to make more things to post in the shop. Thanks for looking! Here's a fun link :)
